Our 2019 Season Community Service

Midwest Finest Basketball takes very seriously our responsibility to give back to the communities who support our club activities. Each year, we have several fundraising activities where  our players rely on the generosity of the communities to help our program by giving their hard earned money in support of our fundraisers, which helps our players reach their basketball goals. It is a perfect time for all of us to think about what we can do to show our appreciation by giving back  to the community in a positive way.

The kickoff of our 2019 season is a club wide event, the details of which are listed below. Others will be listed as they materialize.

Emma's Story

Emma’s Art Kits was created by 16-year-old Emma Stumpf who has been fighting brain cancer since the age of 7.  During her many stays at the hospital, she found art as a way to express how she felt during her cancer journey.  Between surgical procedures and treatments, there were days when Emma was too sick or vulnerable to leave her bed to visit the art room in the hospital.  It was then that she developed the idea to ensure that all kids who were sick had an art kit right in the hospital room with them, and with the assistance of her school art teacher, Emma’s Art Kits were created.

The first few years resulted in some amazing work at Riley Hospital for Children where nearly 1,000 kits had been delivered to children within the hospital.  With the recognition gained from her great work, Emma was nominated for and awarded a local Jefferson Award, and then subsequently awarded the national Jefferson Award given to ordinary people who do extraordinary things without expectation of recognition.  As a part of her award, the Jefferson Awards Foundation supported her efforts for a period of one year and throughout 2017, Emma’s Art Kits were distributed to 13 hospitals across the United States.

To date Emma’s Art Kits are now being distributed in Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in addition to Riley Hospital for Children, with plans to begin distribution within Eskenazi Health, Community Health Network, Franciscan Health and Hendricks Regional Health in 2018.

How This Works for Midwest Finest Players & Parents

Between May 1st and June 4th, all members of the Midwest Finest Basketball family are ask to go out into your community of family, friends, workplace, church groups, teachers, school art clubs, local businesses, everyone in your sphere of influence and find ways to acquire art supplies from the art suppy list posted on the left.

You can create your own mini-art supply drive by soliciting either monitary donations so art supplies can be purchased by you, or you can organize others to purchase art supplies and donate them to the Midwest Finest Art Supply Drive. You can also distribute the link to the Amazon List ( that has been created so anyone can order online, directly from Amazon, and have the art supplies delivered right to the registry address. Either way, the need is to acquire the listed art supplies and bring these supplies to any Midwest Finest practice, where the donated items will be collected from May 1st through June 4th.

At a designated time and date, all of our players and parents will gather at the designated location to assemble the art supplies into art kits.  The information regarding the date, time and loction will be posted here soon.

The goal set for the Midwest Finest Basketball organization is the assembly of 1,000 art kits within the designated time on the day of assembly. This is an agrressive goal but we firmly believe our club never backs down from a challenge and will meet or even exceed this goal.

The club will be using the items purchased on this list to build the art supply kits. Any leftover supplies will be donated to Emma's Art Kits for future kits to be assembled. Thank you for your support!
